Los Gemelos Pit Craters

The road that crosses the island towards Baltra passes between these two sinkhole craters, also known as pit craters.

Since there are two, they are known as “Los Gemelos” (The Twins).

A visit typically starts at a parking lot and heads to the smaller of the two. After crossing the endemic “Scalesia” forest, you return to the road and, after crossing carefully – traffic, you arrive at the second crater.

From here, you can take a leisurely walk through the forest and enjoy its unique vegetation and special birdlife.

Getting There

Transportation from the city is required.

Buses and taxis often stop on the way to or from the airport, but this only allows a brief glimpse of the craters.

For longer visits, it’s necessary to keep a taxi waiting or arrange a pickup time in advance.
