This long trail begins at the parking lot situated above the town of Bellavista. It gradually ascends until the vegetation changes from farmland to the “Miconia” National Park zone. Before moving forward, take a look back: Puerto Ayora seems tiny from here.
Entering the area called “Media Luna”, you pass through the nesting site of one of the most endangered birds in the Galapagos, the Galapagos Petrel. This bird is nocturnal in the nesting area, so it’s unlikely you’ll spot it.
Moving forward, you focus on the “Puntudo”, a small cone that dominates the landscape.
Once there, the final ascent awaits to “Cerro Crocker”, the highest point on the island. On a clear day, you have a wonderful view of the island and its surrounding islands.
How to visit
You need a taxi to drop you off at the parking area; arrange a time frame or call with your cell phone to be picked up when you’re done. Bring good hiking boots, plenty of water, and a walking stick is also recommended.
